After scoring twice in Napoli’s 4-0 victory over Torino on Sunday, Victor Osimhen of Napoli tied another Serie A record.

With his outstanding performance at the Stadio Olimpico Grande, Osimhen increased his goal total in the Italian top division this season to 21 from 23 games.

In terms of the most goals scored by an African player in a top-flight season, the Nigerian international tied the mark set by former Cameroonian international Samuel Eto’o at Inter Milan in the 2010–11 season.

The 24-year-old has plenty of time to shatter that record since there are still six months till the end of the current campaign.

A further two goals would make Osimhen the highest-scoring African in Serie A history.

That impressive feat is currently held by Liberia’s president, former AC Milan striker George Weah.
