The loan deal for England midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City to West Ham United for the remainder of the 2023–2024 campaign has been completed.
When the loan agreement expires, Kalvin Phillips, 28, will not be able to be purchased by West Ham.
Remember when Phillips, who paid £45 million to join City from Leeds United in July 2022, inked a six-year contract?
Under manager Pep Guardiola, Phillips struggled to earn playing time during his eighteen months at City, making just sixteen Premier League appearances overall and two starts.
He had received interest from a number of teams, including Juventus, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle United, but he decided to join West Ham.
For Hammers boss David Moyes, who has been keen to bolster a squad beset by many ailments, the loan agreement will be a huge boon.
Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez was ruled out of the FA Cup match against Bristol City due to a calf injury. Additionally, due to varying degrees of injuries, Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio will be out for an extended period of time.
In the meantime, Sheffield United have signed goalkeeper Ivo Grbic from Atletico Madrid.
Wes Foderingham, who has started each of the Blades’ 21 league games this season, will be Grbic’s opponent.
Grbic is anticipated to stay with the Premier League team until 2027; the transfer amount the club paid for him is unknown.
“I am really happy to be here. It is a big thing for every player to move to the Premier League,” the 28-year-old Croatian goalkeeper said.
“This is the best challenge for me. I’m sure it will be an amazing experience and it will be fun to play in front of our fans. I want to be involved as soon as possible.
“I’ve played in some good leagues in France and Spain and played in the Champions League with Lille and played 15 or 16 games for Atletico last season which is a big club. I know I am ready now for this challenge.”
